Indian Meal Moths from Cat Food Defeated

Bad Cat Food, Fast Meal Moth Traps!

Indian Meal Moth Trap Product Review

5.0 out of 5 stars
I just wanted to let you know that I received my order for moth traps today. I had noticed the moth population had started to dwindle the past few days (they must have been hiding) but within a minute of assembling one of the traps, there were at least 5 moths right near it. I put that one by my front door and put the other one in the kitchen. We went out for dinner and when we got back there were quite a few months in the trap by the door and at least 1/3 filled for the one in the kitchen. I just assembled 2 more traps and before I did, not a moth to be seen, but again, within seconds they appeared!

I am just so thankful for your product and so amazed at how quickly they are working! I have had indian meal moths ever since I got a “bad” bag of cat food and they have driven us all crazy for months. I am going to tell everyone I know about your company!! [ Cleaner Today Moth Traps ]

thanks again!

Here is a set of two pantry moths trap after just 2 months.

Thanks for moth traps that really work!

One trap was in our 36 square foot pantry, while the other was above our fireplace (seems moths also like to live in the chimney).

Getting rid of moths in 4 steps.

How to get rid of moths?

No one likes to suffer through a moth infestation, but the only way to get rid of moths involves some simple steps that may need to be repeated several times. Often homeowners debate how to kill moths between using moth killing chemicals or moth traps. Because moths are often found near food, we never recommend using pesticides, poisons or other chemical for moth extermination projects. The gold standard for eliminating a moth infestation is pantry moth traps because the moth traps contain a female moth pheromone that will attract and capture male moths, reducing the next wave of moth larvae that will grow into adults. Let’s look at the steps for controlling a moth infestation

“Moth Traps Work Great!”

Moth Traps Product Review

4.8 out of 5 stars

I received your “pantry pest traps for moths” today…they work GREAT

I have had an infestation of small moths on my back porch for a few weeks now (where there is NO human food)…there was however bags of dog food and numerous boxes of plant food…well before the traps arrived in the mail I cleaned out the area that seemed to be the breeding place…larvae was in the dog food bags, in the empty pint containers that had blueberries in…(about thirty five of those stacked one on top of the other)…….the moths used the crevices of the stacked containers for their breeding place…there was a huge amount of them in there (so don’t keep the containers that have blueberries in them OR for that fact any fruit)…they are a definite breeding place for sure……

I threw everything out…and I do mean EVERYTHING…I was amazed to see that these moths even got into the bags of plant food I had on my back porch (Miracle Grow)..also larvae was in my African violet food bag….when the traps arrived I put ONE on the back porch…within fifteen minutes of it being there it caught seven of the moths……

I put another one in my kitchen off the back porch…every once in a blue moon one will be flying in my kitchen so I figured that it must of come from the back porch…there are NONE in my cabinets…least I haven’t seen any and so far there are NONE in the trap I have placed in my kitchen…(I put one in the kitchen just in case.)

Pheromone Moth Traps – Use science to catch a moth!

Moth Traps before science

Originally moth traps were not much different from any other insect traps. They were a simple glue board (cardboard with always sticky glue covered in a wax release paper). Using the old style moth trap glue board the moth control strategy was to place the moth trap glue board in an area where a moth could fly into the board and be trapped by the glue.

This style moth trap did catch moths, but it was a function of chance that a moth might stumble into a trap. It’s easy to recognize this style moth trap because it won’t have any separate moth trap lure that comes in a separate packet.

Science driven moth infestation control

Every species emits chemicals called pheromones to communicate the desire to mate. Over the last 50 years, moth pheromones have been the most studied of insect pheromones. In 1959 scientists were able to create a synthetic pheromone used by female moths to attract a male moth for mating. That changed everything about moth traps!

Now a moth trap consists of a glue board, and a moth pheromone square that is opened and placed in the moth trap. These Moth Pheromone Traps are essential to the “mating disruption” moth control strategy.

When a Moth Trap with pheromones is placed in an infested area, the pheromone signal from the moth trap over whelms and draws the male moth. This accomplishes two things:

  1. The male moth is caught by the moth trap glue board. Which means one less moth flying around your kitchen
  2. The male moth is unable to mate with a female. Which means one HUNDRED fewer moth larvae and future moths flying around your head

Pheromone Moth Traps net effect

What results can be expected when using pheromone moth traps (like catchmaster moth traps)?

Expect to catch SOME of the moths you see flying

Not every moth you see flying is a male moth. Female moths are not attracted to the pheromone, and will not be interested in the moth traps. So yes, you could actually see a moth fly right past the moth trap, but it doesn’t mean the trap isn’t working. Only that you saw a female moth fly by.

Expect a reduction in future moths

Everyone wants the problem solved immediately, but when it comes to moths, the real issue is how fast they can reproduce. To future generations of the moth infestation is the main benefit of the pheromone moth trap, because trapping male moths, means fewer female moths can lay eggs. The 2-4 week net effect is a reduction in your moth infestation.

Best Moth Traps Guide – We help you choose!

Not All moth traps are equal

That’s Why we started Best Moth Traps.

When fighting our own pantry moth infestation, we were surprised to find out how little objective information there was to help us choose a brand of moth traps.

We tried to find information about different traps, their sizes, pesticide content, and even where the traps were manufactured. But we couldn’t find enough information to help us choose a moth trap brand. So we ended up buying nearly every type of moth trap on the market.

We’ll share the results of that experience here on The Best Moth Traps!

We appreciate you visiting!
